On this fine new years day Bill, Lily and I took a walk to our local park. For the last few week we'd been watching as two dragon fruits hanging over the fence grew more and more ripe. Today, despite not really knowing what to look for, I felt like one of them looked ready.
With some difficulty the fruit was harvested. We carried home the softball sized pitaya Once home Bill cut it open as I read an online tutorial on how best to serve it.
Inside the waxy red skin was white flesh dotted with tiny black seeds. With a delicate floral flavor and the texture of a kiwi I will gladly eat dragon fruit a second time.
New Year - New Food

Welcome
Happy New Year!
I have a confession, I am a picky eater. I really don't like being a picky eater. It makes it hard to travel, and I always feel rude when I don't want to eat something served to me at a restaurant, or even worse, someone's home. Hopefully experiencing more foods, and re-trying things I didn't like in the past can help to make me more open to new tastes.
My plan? I will try a new food each day in 2011. I will photograph my adventure as best I can and share my stories on this bog as the new foods cross my plate.
I Hope you enjoy my stories, please leave suggestions of foods I should try or anything else in the comments!
